Oral Appliances

Sleep apnea can be far more serious than many people think. With many years of experience, Dr Cluff and staff will produce the most comfortable sleep appliance to help you have a restful night and overcome sleep apnea. The first action to take is to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

When you come in to see us, our team will examine your mouth and take a few x-rays to get an accurate picture of the inner structure of your mouth. Following the recommended treatment from your Sleep Physician, we will take a mold of your teeth and have a custom Oral Appliance made specifically for your needs.

What Is an Oral Appliance?

Our oral appliances look like mouthguards often worn by football players and other people who participate in sports. The high-quality material is non-toxic and safe to wear at night. The device is designed to hold the jaw open with the lower jaw slightly forward to open the airway.

The most common form of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea. This happens when the airway is blocked by: relaxed neck muscles, enlarged adenoids or tonsils, or when the soft tissue at the back of the throat collapses during sleep.

Fortunately, most obstructive sleep apnea cases can be treated with our oral appliances. The function of the appliance is to give added structure to your jaw and position your mouth, so your airway is open. Doing this keeps the muscles and tissue from collapsing, ensuring that you have the oxygen you need to be healthy and the energy to carry on with your day.

These oral appliances are created to fit your unique mouth, ensuring a comfortable fit. Because it is created for your unique mouth, you can rest easily.
